Tech For Writers

Planning Tech for Writers

I use tech for writers make writing easier. Here you find a list that is budget friendly for writers just starting out and long time writers.

When I first wake up in the morning, I dictate my dreams new ideas or annotate from my phone to Google Docs or Word online. I also save research PDFs into Google Drive to read later. I also use these tools for my daily writing practice, and to write first drafts. They are both free, there are paid version to you can purchase as you grow, and you can easily share them with editors, proofreaders, beta readers, and clients. I use TickTick to plan and schedule my time. It has a free version. It gets me to a quick start in the morning before my feet hit the ground.

Editing Tech For Writers

I like to use ProWritingAid for my first edit when working on my own stories. It helps me catch things I would otherwise miss. It is certainly not perfect but is great when you’re editing your own work and need to see it with fresh eyes but don’t have time to wait this is helpful. One great feature of Word online is it can read documents to you, and this makes it a very useful, and powerful, editing tool. This is extremely important when self-editing. Another favorite editing tool is the Fictionary. I like to use it to edit my manuscripts after I have a first draft it’s useful for making your novel more enjoyable to read.

Electronics For Writers

My phone is my best writing productivity booster. I love that I can dictate to it. And I like that my folding keyboard turn any smart phone into a desktop setup for writing. I’ve used both iPhone and Android. They both work great with this keyboard. When I want a bigger screen the piece of tech I go for is my Samsung tablet. I like the 10.5″ models and usually get one with the most storage or the capacity to use a micro SD card. It works with any tablet that has bluetooth.

The MoKo Foldable Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard is a useful and inexpensive gadget for writing when traveling or on th go. My older portable aluminum keyboard version is shown below. The new version is the same size but black. It’s small, thin, and lightweight and folds to half the size. When I get home it is waiting for me on my computer. No lugging a heavy laptop or an iPad around for me. And If I ever lose my phone, all my work is safe in the cloud. For the price, they are of excellent quality, with the same features as more expensive brands, and I can replace it easier if it breaks than the more ex- pensive brands. The keyboard is lighter than any laptop I’ve ever used and easy to transport
